A 235,000-strong Indian Diaspora (200,000 Surinami-Hindustani community and 35,000 NRIs/PIOs) is an important element that helps foster closer ties with the Netherlands. The diaspora forms an important link between the two countries and facilitates people-to-people contacts.

In Guyana Indo-Guyanese or Indian-Guyanese, are Guyanese nationals of Indian origin who trace their ancestry to India and the wider subcontinent. The Indo-Guyanese (Guyanese of South Asian descent) form the largest ethnic group in the country, representing about two-fifths of the population.

The Suriname Events
Suriname: Indo-Surinamese are the largest ethnic group in Suriname, forming 27.4% of the total population. Per the 2012 Census of Suriname, 148,443 citizens of Suriname are of Indian origin. Indo-Surinamese made up 37.6% of the population. India enjoys close, warm and friendly relations with Suriname, reinforced by cultural and people to people contacts bridged by Indian Diaspora’s arrival dating back to one and half century.
